From Calcutta to Kingston: Indo-Jamaican Indentured Laborers

My great-grandmother journeyed from Calcutta to Kingston at the age of four. She was widowed in Jamaica, where she worked as an indentured laborer. Following the death of her husband, her son -- my grandfather, Ivan -- would begin working at the age of twelve.
